During the next 12 months, a team of Wellington students aim to both fund and launch a small rocket into Space. The funding aspect of the project commenced at the start of the Summer Term, with the aim of raising £2,000 by the end of the Academic Year.
In order to raise the necessary funds and make a success of this project, various student-run initiatives such as car washing and funfair stalls, will be running throughout the College day (break time, lunch time, post-College hours) for both staff and students to enjoy. Looking further ahead, once the team have raised the necessary funds to make this happen, they will then hope to raise money for a charity of their choosing through a ‘Just Giving’ page by successfully launching the rocket etc. More information will follow over the coming months, but for now please join me in wishing our students the very best of luck with this project.
Editors Note: The team won’t be able to build an actual launch site so they have to look at alternative power and launch means. Using a balloon they can control the height above the earth the rocket will reach and then stay for a set amount of time to take the pictures, take the readings they want and ensure they can ‘live stream’ the images and readings back to College
