Author visit from Sarah Govett

On Wednesday 20th June the 3rd form were treated to a fascinating talk by Young Adult author Sarah Govett. Her theme was dystopia and she explored this subject with input from the students and discussed plot scenarios, styles of writing, how to create credible characters and use of invented language to signify the future. A group of students went on to attend a workshop with Sarah to plan and write their own dystopian story. The students were full of questions and ideas. If they haven’t read all three books in ‘The Territory’ series they have some exciting holiday reading to come!

This summer as a change from our extreme reading competition of past years, we are adopting a theme of ‘Read the World’. We are encouraging staff and students to read books set in their holiday destination or by authors from that country. Prizes for the best photo of the entrant reading in front of a famous landmark, reading a book from that country. We look forward to broadening our reading horizons and building up recommendations of great books from around the world and a big display.
