  • ENGINEERING OPPORTUNITY.  The Engineering Development Trust is developing a new scheme in collaboration with BAE Systems.  The EDT Skills Camp is a week-long scheme, providing an exciting opportunity for students in Year 11, 12 & 13 to experience participating in an industry led engineering project. The scheme will give pupils an introduction to the skills and competencies needed to thrive as an Apprentice or Graduate engineer.   The EDT Skills Camp is set up to replicate working in a commercial engineering project team.  Following a structured project timetable with the support of the engineer Mentor (acting as Project Manager), the students will be introduced to the skills needed to complete and engineering.  At the end of the week, students will give an assessed 10 minute presentation to a group of engineering managers about their project and recommendations and will graduate at the Silver Level Industrial Cadet Award. .  The EDT Skills Camp is running during the Autumn half term (23 – 27 October 2017) which enables students who may not have had the opportunity during their school timetable to take part in industry activities.  The programme is limited to 30 participants and will therefore be highly competitive.  Please note, it is not a residential, so pupils will be responsible for their own travel to and from the Skills Camp (Farnborough College of Technology).  This programme has been piloted in the Midlands with the following outcomes: ·        100% said it improved their STEM skills When asked how likely they are to choose a Degree or Apprenticeship in Science, Engineering, Maths or IT, 81% answered ‘Definitely’ and the remaining 19% answered ‘Probably’, which is evidence of the impact on helping students to identify their career path.  If you believe that the EDT Skills Camp would interest you (please note eligibility criteria), please see their website www.etrust.org.uk to register their interest in the Skills Camp.
  • ·        95% found the project challenging
  • ·        96% said they learnt more about career opportunities within STEM, by doing the Skills Camp
