At the memorial service for Joanna Seldon (‘her final lesson plan’) we were given a copy of her collection of poetry, The bright white tree. Reading more of her poetry in the last few days has been a joy. The topics covered range from illness to nature, with quirky poems on things like vegetable peelers along the way. The style of the poems is varied and represents her skill with language and evoking emotion. More information on the collection is available from the publisher’s website and more of Joanna’s writing can be found on her website.

Other news:

World Book Day is on 2nd March and to celebrate books and reading we are looking forward to welcoming two authors to speak to our 3rd and 4th form.

There is much excitement over the visit by bestselling YA author Michael Grant on 27th February (author of the hugely popular Gone series).  He is making a rare visit from the U.S to promote his latest series Front Lines and the 3rd form will have the chance to hear him speak, ask questions and buy signed copies of his books.

On 6th March award winning YA author Lucy Christopher is visiting to speak to the 4th form and run creative writing workshops. She is an engaging speaker, a Professor of Creative Writing at Bath Spa University, with the talent to inspire students through her workshops and give them confidence to approach the creative writing element of their English GCSE.
